Intranets.com Unifies Its Offerings With Launch Of Single, Subscription-based Hosted Intranet Service
Enterprise-Quality Intranet is Optimized for Corporations and Small Businesses
BOSTON (June 4, 2001) - Intranets.com, the world's largest intranet service provider, today announced it would unify its service offerings and standardize on a feature-rich, subscription-based intranet service for all customers.
The decision to streamline the company's product line comes two months after the launch of Intranets.com's Professional Edition-an advertising-free, enterprise-quality hosted intranet service that has already attracted over 10,000 corporate and small business subscribers. It also is private-labeled and distributed by numerous partners. The Professional Edition will form the basis of the company's unified offering.
"Our core customer base of corporations and small businesses has long requested an advertisement-free intranet solution with enterprise-quality applications and functionality," Rick Faulk, Intranets.com's vice president of marketing, said. "The response from our core customers to the subscription service has been overwhelmingly positive."
Current free customers will automatically be switched to the subscription intranet for a free 30-day trial period beginning today. This will allow customers to experience first-hand the enhanced functionality of the subscription intranet. Subscribers receive 100MB of storage space, a task manager, expense reports, wireless access, hosted e-mail and synchronization with Palm devices and Microsoft Outlook. These new features complement the core communication and collaboration applications such as document sharing, announcement posting, group polls, discussion groups and group calendar.
Outsell, Inc., of Burlingame, CA, a leading information content industry research and advisory firm, was one of the early small business adopters of Intranets.com's subscription-based intranet service.
"We use our Intranets.com intranet as a virtual office," said Marsha Fulton, director of content and knowledge management at Outsell. "Our 32 employees use the intranet to post announcements, share documents and look up contact information. Banner advertisements flashing at the top of the screen wouldn't fit with our professional image."
Premier Print Holdings, a consolidator of print supplies with 11 locations throughout the country, has two intranets-one for corporate business and the other for its IT department. Premier, headquartered in Huntsville, AL, one of Intranets.com's corporate customers, employs more than 1,000 people.
"Intranets.com's hosted service provides a crucial business function for my department and allows me to synch my Palm device to my intranet so I can track the whereabouts of my staff through the shared group calendar," Stephen Brewer, chief of information technology for Premier, said. "Intranets.com provides my corporation with enterprise-quality applications in a professional format without the clutter and distraction of banner ads."
"The new economic realities of Internet advertising have made the distribution of free services on the Web an impossible financial model to sustain," said Karen Leavitt, vice president of product marketing. "Intranets.com wants make sure that we're a strong and viable company for our corporate and small business customers and the way to ensure that goal is to begin charging a fee for services. Intranets.com continues to be the simplest, fastest and most affordable way for businesses to deploy a secure, Web-based intranet."
