Intranets.com's Free Intranets for Small Businesses Leapfrog Many Enterprise-Quality Intranets With an Array of New Applications
New Advanced Features Offer Anytime Anywhere Flexibility For Small Businesses and Organizations
BOSTON (November 1, 2000)- Intranets.com announced today its launch into the European small-business market through strategic partnerships with GTS Systems and Virginbiz.net. Intranets.com currently provides more than 325,000 small businesses and groups with free intranets. Both Virginbiz.net and GTS Systems will begin offering a localized version of the Intranets.com service to their customers this week.
"With 60 percent of Web users residing outside of the United States, our business strategy is to bring a localized version of Intranets.com to the major economic centers of the world," said Steve Crummey, president and CEO of Intranets.com. "Partnering with respected brand names like Virginbiz.net and GTS Systems is a sure-fire way to introduce Intranets.com to the rapidly expanding European market."
Partnering with GTS Systems enables Intranets.com to provide its Web-based intranets over the GTS Ebone, Europe's largest IP network. GTS Systems is the leading provider of e-business and borderless broadband services across Europe, with access to more than 100,000 small/medium enterprise customers. The companies' joint offering, "GTS Virtual Office," is currently available in the UK and will be rolled out across the rest of Europe over the next two quarters, with German, French and Dutch languages currently planned.
"GTS has a powerful proposition for ASPs like Intranets.com," said Leo McCloskey. GTS senior vice president of marketing. "GTS offers the leading European IP network and state-of-the-art hosting facilities combined with direct connectivity to more than 25 percent of the Internet users throughout Europe. This is a win-win scenario for both companies as we add Intranets.com's valuable service to our network and service portfolio and they reach the widest European audience with one network partner. We think this is the blueprint for companies looking to enter the European market with such advanced Internet-based solutions."
Virginbiz.net Strategic Partnership
Intranets.com also announced a strategic partnership with Virginbiz.net, to offer Virginbiz.net's small business customers free, co-branded intranets with localized commerce and content. Virginbiz.net, a wholly owned subsidiary of Virgin Net, launched in October 1999 to provide a complete online service to small businesses in the United Kingdom, commands 10 percent of the UK's small business market, the largest share of any other provider. Virginbiz announced its partnership with Intranets.com during a press conference today at Nutopia in the Covent Garden section of London.
"Intranets.com has a proven track record of providing useful business resources in North America and Asia," said Mylene Curtis, managing director of Virginbiz.net. "By offering intranets as a value-added service, Virginbiz.net expects to strengthen customer relations, build brand awareness and boost revenues."
Intranets.com has moved increasingly toward developing intranet solutions for strategic partners both domestically and abroad. In February of 2000, Intranets.com launched its Japanese portal (www.intranets.co.jp) and since has partnered with Hitachi, Ltd. to deliver free intranets to its small business customers in Japan. Intranets.com allows partners to deliver a branded intranet that brings applications such as document management, hosted e-mail and calendar scheduling to their customers as a revenue-generating, value-added service. Intranets.com's technology platform is easily and quickly customized to a partner's business objectives.
